Mackay State High School opened on January 1st 1912 on what is now part of the CQ University Mackay City Campus. As one of Queensland's first state high schools, it reflected the significant growth in Mackay and the Pioneer Valley at the time. The school relocated to it's present site in 1962 and has continued to grow alongside the region ever since.
For more than a century, Mackay State High School has built a proud reputation for academic, cultural and sporting excellence. Many former students have gone on to become leaders within the Mackay district and beyond, contributing positively to their communities and professions.
Our mission is to provide the foundation for successful citizenship through quality teaching and learning. Through strong structures, supportive procedures and a diverse curriculum, our school strives to provide an educational environment that reflects the needs and interests of all members of the school community.
With approximately 1,260 students enrolled, Mackay State High School combines long-standing tradition with a contemporary approach to education.
