This program has been designed for students who have a passion for The Arts and want to develop their talents and skills. Our creative environment offers budding drama, dance, music, art and film students an opportunity to pursue their interests with other likeminded students.

The Academy enables each child to develop their interests and abilities and expose students to The Arts industry, career and employment possibilities. The Academy holds strong values in its capacity to strengthen each student in their ability to work well in a team, problem-solve, communicate effectively and take initiative.

The program gives students the opportunity to learn, practice and perform in front of a live audience or display their folio of work to an audience in a gallery or film cinema-style event.

The program is open to students entering Year 7, and provides access to industry standard equipment and resources, and opportunities to excel in their chosen field.

Weekly classes in each Arts discipline enable the students to engage in critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and teamwork to allow them to design, evaluate and present pieces of work to the wider school community.

A celebration and showcase of The Arts will take place throughout the year at events like the school musical, Mackay High Presents, and Arts Under the Stars. The Creative Arts Academy students are required to participate in their chosen Arts discipline, showcasing the skills they have developed and enhanced throughout the year.

The following extra-curricular programs are offered to Creative Arts Academy students (subject to scheduling and current program offers):

  • XL Media
  • XL Arts
  • Drama Excellence (audition process)
  • Vocal Ensemble (audition process)

Other Arts opportunities available for Creative Arts students throughout the school year include:

  • Extension activities and workshops in all Arts disciplines working with CQUniversity and other local Arts industry professionals
  • Incursion and excursion opportunities working with Arts industry professionals

Students in the Creative Arts Academy will be tutored, mentored and coached by our highly qualified and motivated Arts speciality staff team.

It is important that students within the Academy maintain a high academic standard and a strong work ethic. Regular reviews of student behaviour, attendance and progress will be closely monitored, to ensure each students' success within the Academy.

Failure to meet the requirements may result in an interview with the students and their parents/caregivers to determine their continuation within the Academy.
