Library

Welcome to our bigger and brighter library facility located above the administration offices in K Block. To find us, just come up the stairs located behind the administration area.

The opening hours of our library are:

Before school          8.30 am till 8.45 am

First break              11.20 am till 12.00 pm

Second break          1.20 pm till 1.40 pm

Students and staff are welcome to use our library for research and recreational reading during these times. We have a number of recreational magazines available to cover a variety of interests as well as daily newspapers. Internet computers are available for students working on assignments. We also have a number of laptops which are able to be borrowed by students during class time. Students have printing access. Students are also able to access photocopying: black and white A4 copies cost 20 cents while colour A4 copies cost $1.50.

All students are able to borrow:

  • From the biography, fiction, junior fiction, senior fiction and non-fiction collections.

All students are able to borrow a maximum of four resources for a period of two weeks .

Students need their current Mackay State High School ID cards to borrow resources. (New students need to contact the office to have their photos taken for their Mackay State High School ID cards.) Students with outstanding loans are unable to borrow until those resources have been returned, replaced or paid for.

The collection is housed on mobile shelving allowing for flexible use of this large area. There are colourful, comfortable sofas and ottomans scattered around the library allowing students to be comfortable as they work or relax either with print resources or their laptops. The library has three research areas which are accessible via stairs behind the office/administration area.

The magazine/games nook has a range of magazines and newpapers for both research and recreational reading. There is also a variety of board games available for student use during breaks. Monday and Tuesday Chess club is a hive of activity as students compete against each other and staff for supremacy.
